Itinerary

  • 1 Friday (Dinner)

Late afternoon the famous Murray River paddle steamer, P.S. Murray Princess departs historic Mannum, birthplace of the Murray River trade and communication, and heads upriver while you enjoy pre-dinner drinks and a Welcome Dinner. Sit back and enjoy your Murray River Cruise as your boat cruises under floodlight to your overnight mooring at Caurnamont.

From the paddle steamer you may see nocturnal wildlife on the Murray River bank, watch for grey kangaroos, hair-nosed wombats, Murray River long necked tortoises and spoon-beaked echidnas. Your resident on-board entertainer provides music for those who enjoy the times of Murray River boat cruises.

  • 2 Saturday (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Daybreak and time for the keen photographers to be out to capture the special light and the morning movement of wildlife. Prolific bird life includes pelicans, wrens and swans. This morning, your discovery vessel awaits for a wildlife tour. Travelling in small, personalised groups, you will explore the maze of the river and the bird life is amazing. Watch for darters, herons and egrets feeding along the river’s muddy edges.

For those who choose to stay on-board, you may wish to partake in a game of bocce or compete in the fishing challenge before your boat starts to cruise upriver to Swan Reach and Sugar Shack Conservation Park. After dinner, enjoy being entertained by your talented crew.

  • 3 Sunday (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Continue cruising upriver this morning as you enjoy breakfast and pass through one of 13 locks which maintain the flow and levels of water. This morning, listen to the First Officer’s talk in the Sturt Dining Room and in the afternoon join in the fun playing a few games of bingo.

Late afternoon we will secure the vessel at Morgan and after dinner, being entertained by our talented crew.
  • 4 Monday (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Return by coach to Morgan where we will board the Murray Princess and continue our journey upriver and secure at the 326km mark of the Murray River.

After breakfast, we arrive at the picturesque Caudo Vineyard located at Hogwash Bend. Here we will enjoy cellar door tastings and explore the gardens and orchards.

Enjoy a leisurely lunch as we cruise downriver back towards Morgan. During the 1800’s, Morgan was the home port of hundreds of paddle steamers which carried cargo and passengers up the Murray-Darling River system. This afternoon passengers can go ashore to see this historic town. The restored wharf precinct captures the early river trading days and the town’s museums bring to life the stories of the paddle steamer era. Mid-afternoon we join a guided walk of the Morgan township and Morgan’s three historical museums – Morgan Living Museum, Morgan River History Museum and Morgan Railway Museum.

We depart Morgan late afternoon and secure at Donald Flat Lagoon for our overnight moorage. After dinner, join the crew for all the fun and excitement, and participate in our “Murray River Cup”.

  • 6 Wednesday (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

After breakfast cruise to picturesque Swan Reach. The town was first settled in the 1850s and was originally the largest of five sheep and cattle stations in the area and is now home to native flower and fruit growers. The original Swan Reach homestead is now the Swan Reach Hotel where you can enjoy an ale or cappuccino overlooking the Murray River (additional cost). Join the guided walking tour and visit the Swan Reach Museum (Gold coin donation at entry). Cruise down river after lunch and take in the tranquility as the landscape slides by or enjoy a lifestyle and info-cruising presentation.

Later you can visit the Native Wildlife Shelter where some of South Australia’s most interesting native animals are cared for. And then of course, there is the great Aussie Barbecue cooked and served in a bush setting on the banks of the mighty Murray River. An optional Nocturnal tour by tractor and cart is available after dinner (additional cost $16 per person).

  • 7 Thursday (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

After an optional Bush Tucker Breakfast (additional cost) or a bush walk with the Captain, the Murray Princess will slowly cruise down river past magnificent cliffs scoured by the river over millions of years. Just past the cliffs you will reach Ngaut Ngaut Aboriginal Reserve, one of Australia’s most significant archaeological sites. Step back in time tens of thousands of years as you take a guided boardwalk tour to view ancient rock carvings and to learn about aboriginal history in the area.

Back on board the vessel you continue to cruise down river to Younghusband, along the way adventure seekers can also take a speedboat ride. Tonight the Captain and his officers host a spectacular Farewell Captain’s Buffet Dinner. Dress up and dance, if you wish.
