Mid afternoon the famous Murray River paddlesteamer, P.S. Murray Princess departs historic Mannum, birthplace of the Murray River trade and communication, and heads upriver while you enjoy pre-dinner drinks and a Welcome Dinner. Sit back and enjoy your Murray River Cruise as your boat cruises under floodlight to your overnight mooring at Mundarra. From the paddle steamer you may see nocturnal wildlife on the Murray River bank, watch for grey kangaroos, hair-nosed wombats, Murray River longnecked tortoises and spoon-beaked echidnas. Your resident on-board entertainer provides music for those who enjoy the times of Murray River boat cruises.
In 1879 the first bridge to span the Murray River was built at Edwards Crossing, which quickly became the bustling township of Murray Bridge. After a hearty breakfast, join a guided tour of the town's historic landmarks and local attractions. This afternoon you will begin your journey upriver. Tonight the boat will moor at Craignook, where after dinner you can enjoy being entertained your talented crew.
All ashore for the guided nature walk where your guide will share the secrets of the local flora and fauna. It's a great way to get in a little exercise before Murray Princess departs for the big river gorges and 90 metres cliffs of the upper river. Mid morning join everyone in the Sturt Dining room for a special presentation on the bounty of food and wine produced in the riverland's. At the 205km mark the Princess will turn and head down river to River View Lodge where your discovery vessel awaits for a backwater wildlife tour. Traveling in small, personalised groups, you will explore the maze of the river and the bird life is amazing. Watch for darters, herons and egrets feeding along the river's muddy edges. During the afternoon also join the bocce or fishing challenge. This evening join the Captain and Officers for pre dinner drinks and the finale Captain's Dinner and Dance.
After breakfast P.S. Murray Princess arrives at Mannum on the Murray River where reluctantly the Cruise staff and new friends farewells each other. You will then transfer back to the Mercure Grosvernor Hotel in Adelaide arriving around 12.30pm. The afternoon is yours free to wonder the city of Adelaide before settling into your included accommodation at the Mercure Grosvernor Hotel for the night.
An early morning pick up from your hotel for a scenic coach journey to Cape Jarvis taking in the picturesque Fleurieu Peninsula with its vineyards, coastal views and rolling hills. On arrival, board the Sea Link Cruise for the 45 minute crossing to Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island. Here you will board your luxury Sea link coach and your local driver/guide will take you on a tour of South Australia's premier nature-based tourism destination. Your first official stop will be Clifford's Honey Farm to enjoy an informative talk by the beekeeper followed by tasting's and an opportunity to sample homemade honey ice-cream and honey beauty products. Then travel onto Vivonne Bay Bistro located on a 260 hectare bush property, for a delicious two course lunch. After lunch visit Seal Bay Conservation Park and enjoy a guided beach walk with a National Park Ranger amongst a breeding colony of wild and rare Australian Sea- lions. Your tour will then visit another amazing wildlife attraction, the fascinating Birds of Prey free-flight demonstration, an interactive and educational display of native Australian birds and raptors. From here you will travel to Kingscote before being transferred to your Kangaroo Island overnight accommodation.
After your morning hotel pick up, your second day of touring begins at Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Distillery, an interesting bush engineered eucalyptus distillery that makes the most of its environmental resources. After testing and tasting the eucalyptus products, travel to the centre of Kangaroo Island to the Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park where you can feed Kangaroo Island kangaroos, have your photograph taken with a koala, and take a guided tour of this wildlife and bird park. Next, travel to Hanson Bay Wildlife Sanctuary to look for Koalas nestled up in the eucalypts, followed by a scrumptious two course lunch at Hanson Bay Visitor Centre & cafe. After lunch travel to the western most part of the Island, Flinders Chase National Park, one of Australia's largest and earliest conservation parks. After a short stop at the Flinders Chase Visitor Centre, travel through the park and enjoy breath-taking views of its unique trees, plants and coastal scenery. You will be taken to the rugged southern coastline for a walk around Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch. Remarkable Rocks provide great photographic opportunities and stunning sea views. Admirals Arch boardwalk takes you down a rugged cliff face to reveal this spectacular arch, a natural nursery and safe haven for playful New Zealand fur seals that can be seen swimming and playing in the waves, or resting on the rocks. Return to Penneshaw Cruise Terminal for the return journey to Adelaide, on arrival in Adelaide at 10.40pm you will be dropped off at your included accommodation at the Mercure Grosvernor Hotel for the night.Good to know
Getting To Your Departure Point
A complimentary return coach picks up at the Mercure Grosvenor Hotel, 125 North Terrace, Adelaide at 2.00pm and on your return you are dropped off at between 12 noon - 12.30pm. Complimentary locked up car parking is available at Mannum for those who self drive.
